Shockwave therapy has helped numerous patients across the world.

It is non-invasive, quick, and effective.

You don’t have to take our word for it. A number of double-blind, randomized, controlled studies have proven the effectiveness of this treatment.

Evidence in medical literature shows that extracorporeal shockwave treatment (ESWT) or is safe and effective for treating several conditions.

Here, we take a closer look at some studies.

Shockwave Therapy for Plantar Fasciitis

Research shows that for patients with a greater than 12-month history of heel pain, Shockwave therapy can effectively decrease plantar fascia thickness.

This has been demonstrated objectively by ultrasound evaluation and reduce patient-reported pain. The average thickness of the plantar fascia of the symptomatic heels was 7.3 ± 2.0 mm before treatment and 6.0 ± 1.3 mm after treatment.

Shockwave Therapy for Calcific Tendinitis

Shockwave therapy has proven to be quite effective when it comes to the management of calcific tendinitis of the shoulder.

For a study, ninety patients, with radiographically verified calcific tendinitis of the shoulder, were tested. Half of them were placed in a treatment group while the others were in the control group.

Pain and functional level were evaluated before and after treatment and at a 6-month follow-up. The treatment group displayed improvement in all of the parameters analyzed after treatment and at the 6-month follow-up. Calcifications disappeared completely in 86.6% of the individuals in the treatment group.

Shockwave Therapy for Chronic Patellar Tendinopathy

Shockwave therapy has also proven to be more effective than traditional conservative treatments in the management of chronic patellar tendinopathy.

A study was conducted where there were 27 patients (30 knees) in the study group and 23 patients (24 knees) in the control group. The patients in the study group were treated with 1500 impulses of shockwave at 14 KV to the affected knee at a single session.

The results at the 2- to 3-year follow-ups were remarkable.

In the study group, the results were 43% excellent, 47% good, 10% fair, and none poor. At the same time, the results in the control group were none excellent, 50% good, 25% fair, and 25% poor.

This is not it! There are a lot more studies that confirm the effectiveness of shockwave therapy when it comes to treating a number of different medical conditions. Find more research, clinical studies, and statistics here.
